New Airports in Thailand

The company “Airports of Thailand” will construct two airports near popular tourist destinations. This will help manage the increasing number of tourists in the kingdom, as reported on the Thai PBS website.

The Lanna Airport will be located in the northern province of Lampang, adjacent to the province of Chiang Mai. Another airport, Andaman, will be built in the southern province of Phang Nga, near Phuket. The annual passenger traffic at these two airports is expected to reach 40 million people.

The cost of the projects is estimated at 2 and 2.3 billion dollars, respectively.

By the end of 2023, Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok is expected to handle approximately 60 million passengers. The following year is projected to reach milestones of 65 million individuals. By 2027, passenger traffic is expected to reach 80 million. In light of these forecasts, there are plans to expand the airport’s area by approximately 50% and enhance the baggage transportation system.

Additionally, the international airport area on Phuket Island will be expanded to increase the annual passenger traffic from the current 12 million to 20 million people.
