How to make a “chukudu”?

Do you know how to make a chukudu? No? I’ll tell you everything right now!

Take wood from a mamba or eucalyptus tree. Create a sturdy angular frame with a power cage for the handlebars. A T-shaped handlebar, made from a single piece of wood, rotates in it.

Craft wheels, also made from solid wood. For softness, wrap them in strips of rubber from old worn-out car tires. Attach them to old bearings from scrapped cars.

Install a soft suspension with springs. Make primitive brakes that stop the transport by friction against the wheels. Put it all together in a pile over a couple of days, and voila – the chukudu is ready!

An indispensable cargo transport in the North Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of Congo!
